Mid week check in

I've been thinking about setting a goal for myself. I need something to shoot for. I know myself well enough that I need to get a goal in mind. Something to reach for and to work towards.

So, I think I've found a goal.

We're going home on leave in roughly 52 days.
I would like to lose 20 lbs in 52 days.
I know its a long shot, but I think I can do it. that's roughly 3lbs a week for 7 weeks.

I've been reading a lot of blogs, articles, magazines, books, etc on weight loss/healthy eating lately. I actually bought 2 books from the BX last week:

I think I'm going to start posting my meal plans and get everything down.
That way its all accountable.
Tomorrow I'm going to weigh myself.
I'm a little nervous about it.

My FIL was in town for the last 4 days. I've haven't seen so much red meat in I don't know how long.

Saturday - Steaks for dinner
Sunday - Prime rib for fathers day
Monday - Burgers at Great America
Tuesday - Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich for lunch.

Granted each day I tracked my calories, and I've been at my calorie limit. Except for Tuesday, I was over by 140.
So, I hope I've lost some weight. But I'm not going to be surprised if i haven't.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Fresh Start

This last month I have been Bitch Slapped by reality.

After seeing some disturbing pictures of myself from graduation and seeing "196" on my scale. I've had no other choice but face reality. I'm fat. I'm not just a little over weight any more. I'm no longer just in my "new marriage extra weight". I'm out of excuses. I did this to myself. Now I need to get myself out of it.

So, I go to the gym enough. That I know its not lack of activity that has lead me down the dark path of lumpyness. Its what I'm eating, how much i'm eating, when i'm eating, and so on.

So in light of all of this I've decided to make some changes.

I'm starting small and setting realistic goals for myself. I'm done making excuses for myself. If I have a bad day of eating, I'll face it as a fact and learn. If I want a beer, I'll have A beer and not the whole 6 pack.

So here are my goals:
  • Weigh in once a week.
  • Try and stick to a 1200 calorie limit
  • Track my food (good and bad) on Myfitnesspal.com app on my phone.
  • Go to the gym 3-4x a week.
  • Do a minimum of 30min of cardio 3x a week.
That is it. I'm not going to put myself on a strict diet. I'm not going to eliminate carbs, sugars, etc. I'm going to try and make better choices but not force myself to do something i don't want to do. I'm going to make food I like, but with healthier choices.

Here is my 'goal' menu:

Breakfast: Egg Whites (3-4) with 1/4-1/2 cup veggies (tomatoes, peppers, spinach, etc)

Lunch: Lean Protein (chicken or turkey), 1/2 cup rice, 1/2 cup veggie

Dinner: Lean Protein, 1 cup rice or 1 sm sweet potato, 1 cup veggie

Snack: Fruits and veggies

Desert: Otter Pop (15 calories each. Cures my sweet tooth with out the insane calories)

Water: 1gal a day.

So I'm not saying I'm going to do this perfectly. I know i'll have my struggles to keep with in this. But this is my goal.

Friend Making Monday

I am SO FREAKING EXCITED that I signed into my old email account and saw a blog I used to follow has started up again with Friend Making Monday (FMM).

I've been following Kenlie for a while now (over a year) and she is such an amazing inspiration. If you haven't seen her blog yet, go HERE to All the Weigh and check out her story.

Back to the FMM, Each week Kenlie posts a couple of questions. You are supposed to answer the questions on your blog then link your blog post to hers so that the people who read her blog, also see yours. I'm so excited

This weeks theme is:

Before Photos
  1. Are you on a weight-loss journey?  Have you lost weight in the past? Are you trying to lose it now?
    • Yes, I am on a weight loss journey. Its been really slow process. I'm trying to lose 35-40lbs by June (my 5th anniversary
  2. Do you like being in pictures, or do you shy away from the camera?
    •  I shy away from the camera before. I'm really really self conscious about the way my body looks and the way my teeth look so I normally do the photo taking, not the other way around.
  3. Does looking at old photos of yourself motivate you?
    • Old photos of me are a motivation, I was so fit and thin back in the day. The weight just kept creeping creeping creeping up on me and its sometimes hard to look back because It makes me sad that I let myself go.
  4. Weight-loss bloggers, do you post progress pictures on your blog?
    • I will once I start to see some difference. I have "before" pictures. But i haven't posted them because i'm to embarrassed.
  5. Will you share a before photo with us (even if you don’t have an after yet?)
  6. This is my inspiration Picture (May 07) at roughly 145/150lbs
This is my "before" picture. Taken July 2011 at roughly 190lbs.
I tried to look for a full body shot, but like i said before I'm normally the one taking the pictures

First phone post

So this is new to me on so many levels. First I am new to this whole 'smart phone' thing, second I'm in a new state of mind. Third, I'm an insomniac posting from my bed when I should be sleeping.

So my fine friends, shall we catch up??

Lets start with school. Wednesday was my last day of spring term and my last day of my first term here I Cali. What a b* of a term it was!!! So in Oregon the school terms are way shorter, think a 2:1 ratio for 'spring' terms. I took 20 credits this term: 1) history & English class 8cr. 2) interior design - materials & techniques 4cr. 3) math - Intro to algebra 4cr. 4) health online course 4cr.

To say it was an intense term is putting it mildly. But I honestly didn't really feel the weight of if until roughly the last 3 weeks. That's when I started to feel like EVERYTHING was due at the exact same time. But to be honest I really enjoyed the term. I learned a lot, not only in the classes but about Cali schools and about the people too.

I have a 10 day break, then summer term starts. I transferred schools due to budget cuts in the Interior design major at the first school. Which stinks because I really enjoyed the girls in that class. But I cant wait around for the classes I need.

My health - I decided to do this topic next because it directly effects my military career and my weight loss goals.
So I'm not sure how much I posted about this before but since about the first of the year I have been battling debilitating migraines. Ive been in the ER 4 times im 5 months, seen 4 different doctors, and have been on countless meds. Its been a rough go of things to say the least. So I finally got a GREAT doc and nurse and things have been looking up. They found out I have a significantly under active thyroid, so I am on daily pills for that. I had a sleep study done, I go in on the 1st for those results. That was an interesting experience. I literally had a pony tail of wires on me head!! I really hope I don't have to do that again, but it is a possibility.

I'm currently on:
1) birth control pills (low hormone)
2) thyroid pill
3) sinus/migraine pill
4) migraine pain pill
5) daily sinus spray

I think I'm missing something, but you get the idea. I know it seems like a lot, but it seems to be working. I've only been to the ER once on this mix of pills, lol. OH!!!! I forgot to tell you I get to sleep with that sexxxy nose strip breathe right thingy, its pretty badass!!!

Military- so I try my best to do my best at whatever I do. But in my military life, I seem to have something that always kept people from seeing my full potential... Until now! This unit has afforded me the opportunity to prove myself and shine!

Ive been able to start a new training program. Ive taken on a lot of responsibility as the booster club prez. Ive started trying to get additional training done for people in need of it, not just in my section.

We had a BIG inspection last month and my troops did outstanding, our section didn't get a single bad note! I'm so proud of them.

Now... If I could only pass my PT test, I would be golden. Its the one stinking pile of shit in my meadow of flowers. As soon as I pass the test, I'll be able to do so so so much more. It will be the last obstacle in my path towards WORLD DOMINATION... BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!

Speaking of my fitness, on to my weight loss goal...
Now that I can post from my phone, I think I'll be able to update that blog more.

I was seeing a personal trainer, but she kept canceling appointments, and eventually quit on me. I had seen another trainer in the gym, and after one of my canceled appointments I stopped her and asked if she had any openings. Thank goodness she did. She's amazing. I call her my tiny nazi! I mean it in the best way. Shes so motivating and tough at the same time. She has a track record of passing scores. So I really don't want to break that record.

I have SO much riding on this test, I have to pass, their is no other option.

Well..... That about wraps it up. Ill try and post Mor often. It will be easier now that I have this option.

Later gaters.
