Feel Them Up Ladies

I know I'm a little late on this one, but October Is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month! I have been blessed with not having anyone in my immediate family have breast cancer. My mother has a spot in each breast that is being watched. She gets mammogram every 6 months to ensure they don't develop into a cancerous cell. I do however work with a breast cancer survivor and she's one of the bravest women i know.
Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women. Breast cancer is the number one cause of cancer death in Hispanic women. It is the second most common cause of cancer death in white, black, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native women. (cdc)

According to the network for strength: Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in women, after lung cancer.

One out of eight American women who live to be 85 years of age will develop breast cancer, a risk that was one out of 14 in 1960.
The National Breast Cancer Foundation states:When breast cancer is detected early (localized stage), the 5-year survival rate is 98%

Yes, i pulled most of the information off other sites, but there are 2 things i'm sure of. 1) breast cancer is a huge risk to all women of any race. 2) early detection is key! Self breast exams, mamograms, and a healthy lifestyle are huge.
So feel them up girls! save those tatas!!

but I'll have to edit the post later.

There's been some major moving and shaking going on
stay tuned. :)

UPDATED 6:44pm
----------------------------------------------------------

okay. here's the update as promised.

Brian and I have discussed everything going on with his job situation as a family. We have decided that the next step in our life is Active Duty. Brian is going to get commissioned as an officer in the Active Duty United States Air Force!!! And i couldn't be more excited!

I've always wanted to go active duty, but I'm not willing to do 2 things. 1) change my career or 2) lose more than 1 stripe. So I haven't ever switched to active duty.

but i fully support my husband and I'm so excited for the next step in our lives together. He's excited. I'm excited and I simply can't wait. We've been talking about it for a long time now, but i didn't want to get my hopes up by telling you all. because i know as soon as i blog about it (as silly as it sounds) it is in my head and in my heart. I.Can.Not.Wait.

I feel this is a very fitting post for my 300th. A big post. A big post topic. A big change!

Adventures in lasagna

So I know it's so so silly. but, I've never made lasagna. I know, weird right?

So one day we FINALLY got some cooler weather so i figure why not make some comfort food. So I called my mom (queen of the lasagna) and asked for some advice. I know the basic idea of lasagna.

sauce, noodles, cheese, sauce, noodles, cheese. I get it. lol. but its the ingredients that go into the sauce, noodles, and cheese that make it or break it.

And so it starts. I Got everything out and got it ready.
I love me some ricotta Cheese. love love love.
Then I added in the spices. To be honest. I just added stuff that looked like it should go in lasagna. I couldn't tell you exactly how much or exactly what it was. but I would add, taste, adjust. And so on until i liked the mixture. It worked out pretty well.
This is B cooking up the ground turkey to go in the lasagna. He wouldn't stand still long enough for me to get a decent picture. Believe it or not after 5 tries this IS the best one. lol.
After i got the spice mixture right i added shredded mozzarella and mixed it all up.
I bought the Non-boil noodles. I was really nervous about over cooking the noodles, so i decided this was the safest bet.
The layering begins...
I had some difficulty getting the cheese to spread evenly. I'm not sure why but it was really difficult.
Ready for the oven.
Following the directions on the noodle box, it says to put tinfoil over it until 5 min before it is supposed to be done. Then take the foil off and let it cook for another 5 min to let the cheese melt up.
I think it worked pretty darn well.
Fresh out of the oven!!

I think it turned out pretty darn well!!! Brian's only suggestion was to have more sauce next time. Which i agreed it needed a bit more sauce. I only used one jar, and it didn't look like it had enough. but i really liked it. I really really did.

mmmmm.... ground turkey lasagna.
Not bad for my first time! lol!

Interesting Find

Have You seen these before????
Chester's PuffCorn - Cheese Flavored.
I went to the corner store on my break to get a Coca-Cola Zer0 (my new love BTW). And i saw these. And i was thought "eh, 2$? I can do that", so I bought it. Its a HUGE bag, so i shared. Its interesting. Its like popcorn, but what popcorn would be like if it was on steroids and shaved.
They're big gigantic 'puffs'. They have the same texture as popcorn, but there's no fear of biting into the kernel, and it doesn't get stuck in your teeth or on the roof of your mouth. I got the cheese flavor, they're really good. and only 160 calories isn't bad. My co worker says "I bet they're mostly air." O they are, if by air you mean Awesomeness. They have a texture that takes a little getting used too, but ya. I thought i would share this kernel of awesomeness with you. lol.
